Unfortunately, people get hurt driving cars, riding bikes, undergoing medical care, walking through a store, or riding a roller coaster. Some basic rules apply to all injury cases. The general body of law dealing with injury cases is called Tort law and most law schools teach the basic course in the first year. Every injury case is governed by a statute of limitations. This is the Time Limit in which a case must be filed with the court, or the case is lost forever. If you have suffered an injury you need to know the statute of limitations for your case. You can try to settle the case yourself by dealing with the insurance company, but if you don’t get it settled before the statute expires you need to file suit - sue the person or company at fault.

Different states have different statute of limitations. Some can be as long as four years, but most are two years. Both California and Nevada have two year statutes of limitations for most personal injury claims. There are some exceptions, such as for medical malpractice claims and claims against government. A government claim can be such things as a claim against a highway construction worker employed by the state, or a bus driver employed by regional transit.

There are as many kinds of personal injury claims as there are human activities. more...
